About Us

Kintyre Coastal Network is a small volunteer group in Scotland dedicated to protecting the coastal marine environment in Kintyre. The group runs projects such as cultivating seagrass, beach cleanings, and surveys. Our team is passionate about preserving the natural beauty of the coastline and educating the community about its importance. We stand out through our commitment to hands-on conservation efforts and fostering a deeper understanding of coastal ecosystems.

Cal Major’s film about paddleboarding around Scotland’s coast motivated a team of local residents’ interest in coastal conservation and the formation of Kintyre Coastal Network (KCN). The film showed the beauty of our coast and illustrated some fantastic Community-led conservation projects. In the past 12 months, the team at KCN has contacted marine conservation groups in order to further their knowledge and understand issues and concerns raised in rural coastal communities. The word conservation can sometimes be seen as prohibitive, but KCN’s aim is to nurture what we have, and do what we can for the future, so that everyone benefits. It reflects the change in both government and public thinking on conservation, and KCN has now been adopted as a member of South Kintyre Development Trust.
